Ultimate Guide: Must Have Fitness Equipment For Personal Trainers

Whether you’re the type of trainer that likes to show off the latest fitness tech or the type that trains clients mostly through calisthenics at the park, there’s no denying that every trainer needs at least few pieces of essential equipment in their arsenal.

From measuring a client’s body fat to timing their 40 yard dash, there are simply a number of tools that will make your job easier but also make the client’s experience and results that much better.

The guide below is incredibly comprehensive, but if you’d like to add to it or have any suggestions – be sure to drop a note and let us know.

Body Composition Measurement & Assessment Tools

Skinfold Caliper / Body Fat Caliper

Skinfold calipers look like a claw or pincher with an attached measuring scale. While there is a slight a learning curve associated with using skinfold calipers, they do offer the easiest and most accurate way to calculate an individual’s body fat levels. Most assessments will include a pinch test at 3, 5 or 7 different body parts, after which each measurement is plugged into a corresponding equation to calculate body fat percentage.

Known for it’s accuracy, the Lange Skinfold Caliper  is the de facto industry standard and is widely used in schools, fitness centers and medical facilities. Its high quality comes with a price premium, but when you’re a health and fitness professional, accuracy means everything. You want to be sure you are providing your clients with the best possible skinfold readings to measure their ongoing progress. The Lange Skinfold Caliper is made of durable metal, is spring loaded to ensure accurate readings by applying constant pressure and comes with a padded hard case, calibration block and instruction booklet.

Electronic Body Fat Analyzer

Electronic body fat analyzers look like the steering wheel of an airplane (yoke) with an attached LCD screen. Electronic body fat analyzers are generally more convenient and easier to use when compared to traditional skinfold calipers, but are also considered to be slightly less accurate and result in more deviation between each measurement. This type of BMI monitor can be affected by hydration levels, exercise, eating, and other normal fluctuations, and is often even less accurate for individuals with an unusually high or low BMI. However, this method still provides a useful ballpark with which to track your clients’ progress.

Simply instruct your clients to hold the device at arms’ length away from their body, and the electronic body fat analyzer will quickly display their body fat percentage, BMI (body-mass index) and more on the LCD screen using electrical impedance, a small electrical current transmitted through the individual’s body.

The Omron Fat Loss Monitor is highly regarded in the industry and is generally accurate to within 5% (which is not an insignificant margin of error). Overall, this method results in much less hassle than traditional skinfold calipers and provides readings that are consistent enough to be used day to day (even if it is off by a small margin).

A goniometer is a clinical tool used to measure the range of motion of various joints on the body. Goniometers look a bit like a protractor or hinged ruler, are made of either plastic or metal and are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. This type of tool is useful to track a client’s mobility progress if they have a limited range of motion due to tightness in the muscles or from a previous injury.

With a simple design and its ease of use, the Ever Ready Plastic 12″ Goniometer 360 has a tight hinge to keep measurements in place and is sturdy, yet flexible enough to easily fit in your equipment bag.

Manual Blood Pressure Monitor

Most individuals are familiar with manual blood pressure monitor (sphygmomanometer), which is comprised of an inflatable cuff attached to a small hand pump and measuring scale. Blood pressure monitors are ideal for fitness professionals who are monitoring more than body composition, particularly those who work with older and other at-risk clients. Manual blood pressure monitors offer outstanding accuracy with a bit of practice and are handy to help you determine how intense of a program you can assign to your clients, even if measurements are only performed during the initial assessment. Keep in mind that all manual blood pressure monitors also require a stethoscope to properly measure diastolic in addition to systolic blood pressure.

The MDF Sphygmomanometer – Professional Blood Pressure Monitor with Adult Sized Cuff comes with a three year warranty, a lifetime calibration warranty and is widely used amongst health industry professionals thanks to its quality and reliability.

A stethoscope is a medical instrument used to listen to the internal sounds of the human body (heart beat, breathing etc.). Stethoscopes look like a paid of headphones with a flat bell at the opposite end. Pair a quality stethoscope together with your manual blood pressure monitor to take accurate blood pressure readings every time. When using a stethoscope and manual blood pressure monitor, be sure that you follow all of the protocols and procedures learned during your training.

The 3M Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope has a dual head and offers excellent acoustic performance so you’ll be confident when providing your clients with their blood pressure readings.

Semi-Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor

For those who want to eliminate the manual pumping and know-how required to use a traditional manual blood pressure monitor, the semi-automatic blood pressure monitor makes it a breeze. Once the inflatable cuff is placed securely on the upper arm, simply inflate the cuff manually and with the press of a single button, the semi-auto blood pressure monitor does the rest of the work during deflation.

The ADC ADVANTAGE Semi-Auto Upper Arm Digital Blood Pressure Monitor is recommended here for its accurate readings and ease of use. One button press is all it takes to obtain consistent and accurate readings on the easy-to-read digital display screen.

Measuring Tape

Simple and effective, measuring tape is a must have for all personal trainers. Measuring tape looks like a typical ruler, but is made of flexible material so you can measure things other than flat surfaces. One of the best ways to track a client’s progress is through the measurement of various body parts at regular intervals. Measuring tape makes this simple and easy to do.

The Flexible Soft Tape Measure is made of high-quality flexible plastic material and measures 5ft (60 inches/150 centimeters) so you can easily track your clients as they continue to hit each of their fitness goals.

Digital Body Weight Scale

While there are many other factors that should be measured when reviewing a client’s progress, bodyweight is perhaps the most common and easiest metric to track. It is generally recommended that you weigh your clients once a week at the same time each week, in order to avoid the day-to-day fluctuations that could skew the results.

The Greater Goods Digital Bathroom Scale with Backlit LCD digital scale makes it easy to monitor bodyweight fluctuations in a matter of seconds. Digital body weight scales are convenient when you’re simply looking for a quick and accurate measurement in between full assessments.

Digital Body Weight Scale With Body Composition / BMI (Body Mass Index)

Body weight alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Losing 5 lbs of muscle is a lot different than losing 5 lbs of fat. This is why client assessments should generally include other types of measurements.

The Greater Goods Digital Scale with Body Composition makes it easy to measure weight, BMI, body fat, lean mass, hydration, and bone density. Similar to the standard digital bodyweight scale, this digital scale uses bioelectrical impedance to estimate an individual’s body composition. If you’re looking for additional information and don’t want to go through a full assessment, this is a valuable and convenient option for all personal trainers.

Analog Body Weight Scale

Way back before computers were invented, people used analog devices. When you’re looking for simplicity and don’t want to bother with batteries, sometimes classic is better.

The Salter Pro Helix Professional Analog Scale makes it easy to measure an individual’s body weight. Simply step on and the analog scale quickly outputs in both pounds and kilograms.

Whether jotting down client notes or completing a workout log, a clipboard offers a firm surface on which to take notes during your personal training sessions. Using a clipboard is far better than having loose papers getting wrinkled while flapping in the wind and demonstrates to your clients that you’re dedicated to their success.

I recommend wooden clipboards like the Trade Quest Hardboard Clipboard due to their durability as I’ve found clipboards made of plastic types can crack easily, especially when stuffed into your bag.

Chest Heart Rate Monitor

Heart rate monitors are a fantastic way to assess an individual’s cardiac response to various types of training. A heart rate monitor estimates heart rate based on a complex algorithm. Most heart rate monitors are either strapped to the chest or around the wrist, transmitting captured data to a receiver. Both types offer great accuracy, but because they are placed physically closer to the heart, chest straps are generally considered to be more reliable. Heart rate monitors allow the trainer to monitor intensity and provide feedback to ensure the client is training within the appropriate heart rate levels to achieve specific fitness goals.

The industry-leading Polar H10 Bluetooth Heart Rate Sensor & Fitness Tracker is waterproof to withstand the most intense workouts and can be paired via Bluetooth to your smart phone. The battery is replaceable ensuring that the unit lasts you for many workouts to come.

Wrist Heart Rate Monitor

Similar to its chest strap cousin, the wrist heart rate monitor offers many of the same fitness-tracking benefits. Placed on the wrist, it can be less obtrusive but can only be monitored by the individual wearing the device.

The Polar A300 Fitness Tracker and Activity Monitor with Heart Rate is lightweight, waterproof and can be paired with a compatible chest strap or monitor heart rate directly from the wrist.

Pedometers are amongst the most basic of tools available to track an individual’s exercise. Secure the pedometer to a piece of clothing or around the neck and it will track the total number of steps an individual takes as well as provide an estimate of the amount of calories burned. The analog unit maintains count as the body swings from side to side during physical activity.

The OZO Fitness SC2 Digital Pedometer is easy to set up, comes with a strong clip to keep it in place and logs an accurate count of steps taken. While they are not considered the most sophisticated of instruments, pedometers are uncomplicated and easy for anyone to use and understand.

Tally Counter

A simple way to keep count of reps, sets, laps and more. Simply click the button and the counter increases incrementally by one. This unit fits in the palm of your hand and because it is a manual device, there is no need for costly batteries or cords.

Simple and effective, the Digi 1st TC-04 Hand Tally Counter is made of durable materials and ensures you have an accurate count each and every time.

Grip Tester

Within certain fitness programs, you’ll want to gauge your client’s grip strength. This Grip Strength Tester has various presets for various genders/ages and the machine will provide an estimate of the client’s strength performance (weak, normal, strong) for the based on gender/age and output can be toggled between pounds or kilograms.

The Camry 200 Lbs / 90 Kgs Digital Hand Dynamometer Grip Strength Measurement Meter Auto Capturing Hand Grip Power  is used as a professional testing device for handgrip strengths in many physical therapy clinics and gyms. This handy device can measure grip strength up to 198lbs / 90kgs, with its high precision sensor, with a deviation of 0.2lbs / 0.1kgs.

Stop Watch

As a personal trainer, you’ll be constantly monitoring your client’s performance both in the gym and on the field. Whether measuring their 40 yard sprint time or rest period in between sets, you’ll often find that it’s important to keep an accurate measure of time elapsed.

A stop watch is perfect for personal trainers since it highly portable, has a large digital display and is programmed specifically with accurate time keeping in mind. Although there are a number of smartphone apps available these days, it’s not always ideal to be staring at your screen during a training session, so having a traditional stop watch helps to provide a better client experience.

Never miss a beat with the ACCUSPLIT Pro Survivor – A601XBK Stopwatch, Clock, Extra Large Display (Black). This unit comes highly recommended for its straightforward design and functionality.

Resistance Training Equipment

Resistance Bands

These incredibly durable bands are great for even the most challenging of workouts. Able to handle loads of up to 150 lbs, these bands are the perfect way to add extra resistance to your client’s workouts by attaching them to barbells, to assist with pull ups, to perform band-specific exercises or simply to perform dynamic or static stretches.

The WODFitters Assisted Pull-up Resistance Band Set is convenient and easy to carry, and is a must-have item for any serious trainer. Completely versatile, you can use them in a variety of settings and exercises.

Resistance Tubes with Handles

These durable resistance tubes come in five different resistance strengths so you can progress and regress each exercise as needed. Highly versatile, the bands come with attachable handles which make it easy to perform a wide variety of exercises to target any body part. Convenient for trainers on the go or in a standard gym setting.

The Black Mountain Products Resistance Band Set comes with everything you need to create a solid workout program, including a door anchor, ankle strap, exercise chart, and carrying case. Because you can attach multiple tubes to each handle, the set offers a wide range of resistance for athletes of all levels.

Resistance Therapy Bands

These lightweight bands come in five different resistance strengths so you can progress and regress each exercise as needed. The bands are 12” in length, so they can comfortably fit around your legs or arms, depending on which area you are targeting. These bands are best used for light resistance training, physiotherapy, pilates, yoga or general stretching, and are not intended for extreme loads.

The Limm Exercise Resistance Loop Bands – Set of 5 are priced competitively and include an instructional booklet & carrying pouch so you can bring it with you to whether on the go or in the gym.

Foam Trap Pad

A standard and simple foam squat bar pad. Attach the squat pad to the barbell to distribute the load when clients are performing squats and other across-the-back exercises to minimize risk of injury and soreness. Very lightweight and the convenient velcro closure makes it easy to attach and detach quickly. Great for beginner and intermediate users who aren’t used to carrying heavy loads across their back.

The Yes4All Bar Pad is the standard squat pad found in most gyms and fits neatly across the traps and shoulders to create a comfortable cushion barrier between the bar and body.

Manta Ray Trap Pad

The original Manta Ray squat pad quickly attaches to the barbell to evenly distribute the load of the bar and pressure placed across your client’s shoulders and traps. Great for beginner and intermediate users who aren’t used to carrying heavy loads across their back and the Manta Ray is more secure/stable than a standard foam pad as it is contoured to fit most upper backs/traps.

The Manta Ray Squat Pad has been designed to conform to the curvature of the upper back and shoulder muscles so you and your clients can focus on proper form and technique. Snaps on quickly and easily to any standard olympic-sized barbell.

Lifting Chalk

Chalk is cheap. Lifting chalk removes moisture and dries the hands so that your client does not lose grip when performing certain exercises such as deadlifts and bent-over rows. Perfect way to enhance grip strength naturally without the use of straps or gloves. Can be a bit messy, so make sure it is approved for use in your gym.

This 300 Gram ( 10.58 oz ) Bag of Loose Gym Chalk provides a huge value and bang for your buck. Use it for weight lifting, gymnastics, rock climing and more.

Standard Weight Collars

Standard weight collars prevent the weight plates from moving around on the bar when an exercise is being performed. Helps to minimize the risk of injury due to weights falling off or shifting during the movement. Particularly useful for any exercises when the bar is being held overhead.

Look for the Impex Marcy Olympic Bar Spring Clip Collar standard coil collars to help keep your weights in place. These collars are tension loaded and made from durable materials to allow you to focus on maximizing load while avoiding injury for you and your clients.

Weight Collar Clamps

These durable clamps are perfect for ensuring that the weights stay in place and on the bar, in order to avoid injury and accidents when exercising. Clamps are convenient as they easily slide on and off of olympic barbells with the flip of a switch. The reliability of clamps also tend to be longer lasting than traditional weight collars which can become worn or warped with time.

We recommend the Ritfit 2″ Inch Locking Clamps with Quick Release (Set Of 2) to keep your weight plates secure on any standard 2″ olympic barbell. They snap on and off quickly, allowing you to move quickly between sets.

Nylon Lifting Belt

The purpose of a belt is to increase intra-abdominal pressure, which provides added back support. Pushing your stomach against the belt creates an internal force that acts on the anterior side of your spine, acting to stabilize your entire body for a solid foundation during exercise. This translates into more energy being directed to moving the load and less to maintaining body position.

A nylon belt like the Harbinger Weightlifting Belt with Flexible Ultra-light Foam Core, 5-Inch provides sufficient support for those difficult lifts while being easy on the wallet. The velcro band makes strapping the belt on and off a breeze. Perfect for the casual lifter who is not weightlifting competitively.

Full-Back Leather Lifting Belt

Leather weight lifting belts provide additional support, stability and durability for those who are training with larger loads or those who simply prefer the more rigid feel of the leather material.

The Valeo 6-Inch Padded Leather Belt With 1/4 Inch Cowhide And Suede Lining provides a soft, padded lining inside to provide additional support and comfort during your heaviest lifts.

Single Prong Lifting Belt

Single-prong leather belts such as the Single Prong Powerlifting Belt 10mm Weight Lifting Black provide a high degree of support without the added padding. The single prong latch makes it easy to put on and remove, while still being secure enough to give you all the confidence you need during those heavy lifts.

Double Prong Lifting Belt

A double-prong lifting belt such as the Serious Steel Fitness 10MM Lifting Belt comes with all the support of a single-prong lifting belt, but provides an added layer of security with its double-latch. Because a lifting belt is pulled tightly and snugly during a lift, it will feel more stable but requires slightly more effort to put on and take off.

Lever Lifting Belt

If you’re looking to avoid struggling with traditional pronged lifting belts, check out the Lever Buckle Powerlifting Belt 10mm. It provides a similar level of support back support with a uniquely-designed lever to quickly close and release. The price of this belt beats out similar but more expensive belts hands down.

Dip Belt

Dips are fantastic exercises, but the amount of resistance is limited to your bodyweight. That is, of course, unless you have a dip belt. A traditional dip belt has a chain on one side with a clip on the end, which threads through the other side of the belt so you can add additional weight in order to progress the exercise.

We recommend the Harbinger Polypropylene Weight Dip Belt with 34-Inch Steel Chain to progress dips to target the chest and triceps, or for pull ups to work the back and lats.

Cotton Lifting Straps

When pulling heavy weights, it’s common for the forearms to fatigue more quickly than the targeted body part. For example, when deadlifting 300+ lbs, the larger back muscles can generally handle the weight load much more effectively than the smaller muscles of the forearms.

By using lifting straps, you effectively take the forearms out of the equation, allowing the targeted muscle to handle nearly all of the load. This generally enables you to lift heavier weights for a greater number of repetitions.

The Harbinger Heavy Cotton Lifting Straps (Pair) are comfortable and easy to use. Simply wrap slip them over your wrists and wrap the strap over the bar, and you’re ready to go.

Cotton Padded Lifting Straps

Very similar to standard cotton lifting straps, the Harbinger 213 21 1/2-Inch Classic Cotton Padded Lifting Straps have a layer of padding on the inside to provide additional support on the back of your wrist. Lifting heavy weights can put unnecessary pressure on your wrists, so be sure to protect them if you’re feeling excess levels of discomfort.

Leather Lifting Straps

Leather lifting straps accomplish the same goal as cotton lifting straps. Some individuals simply prefer the look and feel of leather over cotton.

These Harbinger DuraHide Real Leather Lifting Straps provide a high level of comfort and durability for those looking for added grip support during heavy lifts.

Padded Leather Lifting Straps

These RDX Leather Weight Lifting Gym Straps come with an added layer of padding to protect the back of the wrist against the weight being pulled. Some athletes prefer the additional comfort, while others enjoy the more natural feel of the non-padded variety. It all comes down to personal preference.

Lifting Hooks

Lifting hooks perform the same function as lifting straps, but offer a more rigid solution for lagging forearm strength. By “hooking” onto the bar, the targeted muscles will be emphasized throughout the lift while relieving tension on the forearms, thus allowing you to lift heavier weights for a greater number of repetitions.

These Heavy Duty PRO Metal Lifting Steel Hooks 6mm Set of 2 have a 600lb pull rating, an adjustable, comfortable neoprene strap and durable steel hook to keep you lifting heaver and longer.

Head Harness

A crucial, yet often overlooked body part is the neck. A weak link causes the whole chain to fail and stress tends to gather in our shoulders and neck, especially when these muscles are neglected.

The Harbinger Padded Leather Head Harness is a classic piece of equipment that is rarely found in fitness facilities these days. It consists of a durable leather strap and steel chain to affix the desired weight. Simply strap the harness over your head and use the resistance of gravity to strengthen and develop the muscles of the neck.

Ab Wheel

An ab wheel is designed to create strength and stability in the core ab muscles, which are critical for other exercises such as squats and deadlifts. Grasping both handles on either side of the ab wheel, extend your upper body outwards, then contract inwards for an intense ab workout.

The Valeo Ab Wheel With Easy Grip Handles is highly portable and highly effective. The dual-wheel design creates added stability to prevent slipping during movement. Bring it with you to any of your training sessions to aid your clients in sculpting a chiseled mid section.

Core Rollers

Core rollers function similarly to a standard ab wheel, but allow for separate movement of each arm. Just as with other movements, when each arm is allowed to move independently, you can perform staggered exercises to target various areas of the muscle.

The SKLZ Core Wheels Dynamic Strength & Ab Trainer offers a mobile solution for trainers who want a variety of equipment available to help their clients build the abs they are looking for.

Glider Discs

Glider discs are another great piece of equipment to assist with building the core ab muscles. The glider discs can be used with the hands or feet, to target both the upper and lower abdominals.

The Elite Core Exercise Sliders – 2 Gliding Discs are designed to work on either carpet or hard floors, so you can take them with you to your clients’ homes or use them in the gym. They are lightweight and flexible enough to fit in any gym bag for workouts on the go.

Perfect Push Up

Used primarily to target the pectoral muscles of the chest, push ups have been the staple of any bodyweight exercise regimen. However, because the range of motion of a traditional push up is limited to the length of the individual’s arms, the push up bar was invented. The heigh of the push up bars extends the distance traveled during the movement, creating a deeper motion and overall more effective exercise.

Check out the Perfect Fitness Perfect Pushup Elitepush up bars for their ability to rotate, allowing even further contraction of the chest muscles throughout the pressing movement. Another great piece of equipment that is mobile enough to take with you, or keep at your favorite gym.

Angled Push Up Bars

Push ups are amongst the best type of body weight exercise available, primarily working the pectoral muscles. Unfortunately, the range of motion is limited to the length of the individuals arms. Push up bars change that by extending the distance traveled during the exercise.

The 321 Strong Push Up Bars With Comfort Grip and Ergonomic Angle are made of a lightweight an durable plastic material, with foam handle grips for secure comfort and rubber foot stops for enhanced stability. These push up bars are angled so you can perform both incline as well as decline push ups, depending upon your program.

Hanging Ab Straps

Raising the legs in an upwards motion helps to target the lower abs more effectively. Traditionally, lying leg lifts have been used to work the lower portion of the core. Depending upon the angle used in a lying leg lift, the more or less engaged the abs will be. Hanging ab straps are perfect to allow the movement against the full resistance of gravity while hanging vertically from an overhead bar.

The Valeo Heavy Duty Ab Straps With Steel Caribiner Attachments are made of durable vinyl, are padded for extra comfort, and have strong steel attachments to ensure a safe, secure and effective ab workout.

Forearm Blaster

The forearms contain many muscles that help with grip and rotation of the lower arm. Exercises such as wrist curls target the muscles directly, while heavy deadlifts and farmers carries can build them indirectly.

The Yes4All Wrist and Forearm Blaster offers another effective method of working the forearm muscles directly. Simply attach a weight to the cable and roll the bar forward and backward to lower the weight up and down to really feel the burn.

Bicep Blaster

The bicep blaster was popularized by the great Arnold Schwarzenegger and helped to build his amazing bicep peaks. You can see it being used in many of his vintage training videos. The bicep blaster straps over your neck and rests against your chest, so that you can place your elbows against it while performing bicep curls. This keeps the elbows from swaying, resulting in very a strict technique that places all of the resistance upon the biceps.

The RAD Arm Blaster is made of high quality materials, and has added padding for the elbows and neck to ensure comfort throughout the exercise.

Bowflex Adjustable Weights

Weights are heavy and tend to take up a lot of space. Unfortunately, not everyone has the space available to keep an entire rack of dumbbells in their home or even their private gym. This all changed recently, thanks to the invention of the Bowflex adjustable weight set. Now, its easy to keep a pair of dumbbells that can adjust to over 100lbs (up to 52.5lbs each) in the corner of your room.

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbells (Pair) makes it easy to progress and regress exercises that require a pair of dumbbells. Each space-efficient dumbbell adjusts quickly between 5lbs to 52.5lbs with the turn of a dial so that you can keep your workout moving.

Bulgarian Bag

A Bulgarian Bag is a crescent-shaped exercise equipment used by athletes for strength training, plyometric  training, cardiovascular training, and is often used in combat sport training. Traditionally made of leather, the Bulgarian Bag allows for functional movements across all planes while emphasizing grip strength.

The Bulgarian Bag – Genuine Leather (17 lb.) comes in a variety of different weights and has three different types of handles, which allows athletes to execute a variety of functional exercises by using different grips. This single piece of equipment offers a complete workout that builds strength and endurance simultaneously.

BOSU Ball Balance Trainer

A BOSU Ball is an inflated rubber hemisphere attached to a solid plastic surface. It looks like half of a stability ball attached to a flat bottom on its opposite side. The term BOSU is derived as an acronym for “Both Sides Up”, as the unit can be used on either its rounded ball side, or on its flat side. Training on an unstable surface leads to increased neuromuscular activity when compared with standing on a stable surface.

The BOSU Ball Balance Trainer allows the ability to increase the difficulty of an exercise by creating a decrease in stability. Because of its unique shape, the BOSU Ball can be used in a wide range of exercises to train balance, stability, and strength.

Abdominal Mat

An abdominal mat is a padded surface to provide support and comfort for floor/ground-based core abdominal exercises. Core exercises such as crunches, sit ups and lying leg lifts can cause a lot of strain on the lower back, primarily for individuals with underdeveloped ab muscles.

The Elite Abdominal Sit-Up Pad provides the support needed to position the body optimally so that the desired core muscles can be effectively targeted.

Medicine Ball

A medicine ball is a weighted ball that is used for strength and endurance training. The medicine ball is a classic piece of equipment that has been around the fitness world for quite some time thanks to its versatility and effectiveness for all muscle groups. The medicine ball can be used with nearly all clients, as part of a program to increase strength, endurance, power and even assist with rehabilitation.

The Valeo Medicine Ball has a textured rubber finish for superb grip throughout each exercise. Medicine balls come in a wide range of weights so that you each tailor each exercise to the individual client.

Medicine Ball with Handles

Similar to a standard exercise ball, some medicine balls come with built-in handles to allow for an easier grip. The handles make it easier to grip and pass the ball during certain exercises and explosive movements.

The SPRI Dual Grip Xerball Medicine Ball is made of durable rubber material and has two large handles on either side so that it can be gripped with a single hand or with both.

Medicine Ball Tree Rack

Because they are round just like any other ball, medicine balls can’t seem to sit still when stored. They tend to roll around and get mixed up amongst the rest of your equipment.

That’s why it’s great to have a medicine ball tree rack like the Champion Sports Medicine Ball Tree for convenient and neat storage. Stack the medicine balls vertically to save space while making it quick and easy to find the size and weight you’re looking for.

Slam Ball

A slam ball is similar to a traditional medicine ball, but is much softer, not as rigid and doesn’t hold it’s shape as firmly. Slam balls are filled with sand and are designed to be softer and more malleable so that they can be slammed against the ground and walls, improving both strength and power.

The Valor Fitness Slam Ball is available in a variety of weights and is manufactured with a soft, textured rubber surface which makes it easy to grip and slam during your workouts. Because of its durable rubber construction, you can slam it as hard as you want while remaining confident that it will last through even the toughest of workouts.

TRX Suspension Trainer

The TRX Suspension trainer is the leading bodyweight fitness apparatus on the market today. It was designed by a US Navy SEAL and is able to develop strength, balance, flexibility and stability simultaneously. It is a set of straps that are connected to leverage gravity and the individuals bodyweight to create resistance through each movement.

The TRX Training – Suspension Trainer Basic Kit + Door Anchor is a complete kit, is highly portable and has the capability to perform hundreds of different exercises for all body parts, including mountain climbers, rows, pushups and more.

TRX X-Mount

As its name states, the TRX Suspension Trainer needs to be suspended to be properly utilized. The most stable and secure way to install the TRX Suspension trainer is by permanently attaching it to your ceiling.

The TRX X-Mount is the perfect way to get started using your TRX Suspension Trainer right away. You’ll need a stud finder, a drill and a socket wrench to install the X-Mount as well as a step ladder, depending on your ceiling height and your reach.

TRX Door Anchor

While the TRX Suspension Trainer is highly portable, the TRX Door Anchor makes it even easier to set up the TRX Suspension Trainer at home, in the gym or at the office. Simply affix the TRX Door Anchor over any sturdy door frame, close the door and start working out. This official door anchor takes the place of more permanent ceiling fixtures that are often difficult to install and may cause damage to certain building materials.

TRX Rip Trainer

The TRX Rip Trainer Basic Kit was developed as a complement to the TRX Suspension Trainer, primarily to target the development of abdominal core strength and stability. Similar to the TRX Suspension Trainer, it is highly portable and highly versatile.

The TRX Rip Trainer’s unique design allows for various hand grips and angles to perform a wide range of pushing, pulling and rotational exercises.

Suspension Trainer with Separate Handles

If you’re looking for an outstanding alternative to the name-brand TRX, look no further. All suspension trainers leverage gravity and the athlete’s bodyweight to create resistance for each exercise. The difference comes in the design and materials used by each manufacturer.

The Lifeline Jungle Gym XT sets itself apart thanks mainly to its separated handles, which allows the athlete to perform a wider variety of exercise, depending upon where the handles are positioned in relation to each other (the TRX handles are affixed at a single point). Additionally, the door anchors are built in, which means you won’t have to purchase a separate piece of equipment to get started using the equipment at home.

Recovery Tools & Other Accessories

High-Density Foam Roller

SMFR (Self Myofascial Release), commonly referred to as ‘Foam Rolling’, is a method of soft tissue massage therapy that is principally used to remove knots and kinks in the muscle that form during workouts. Additionally, SMFR can also improve muscular flexibility, athletic performance, reduce soreness, all for the mere fraction of a cost of a full massage therapy session.

While foam rollers come in all different shapes and sizes, the SPRI High Density Foam Roller, 36-Inch is the most common type of foam roller found in gyms and used by athletes due to its dense foam and firmness.

Low-Density Foam Roller

For individuals who want a less intense muscle release, a softer version is available. Although a foam roller isn’t intended to cause harm, SMFR can be a bit painful when pressure is applied to sensitive areas and trigger points.

Check out the low-density Rehabilitation Advantage White Foam Roller 36″if you want the benefits of SMFR, but have clients that have a lower threshold for pain.

Rumble Roller

The Rumble Roller is a specially designed foam roller with rubber nubs across its outer surface. The nubs are useful for targeting deep in between muscles and stubborn muscle knots.

The original RumbleRoller Original Blue – Textured Muscle Foam Roller – 12 Inches comes in two different lengths and firmnesses so that you and your clients can safely and effectively release soft tissue while enjoying the feeling of an in-home massage.

Boxing gloves, we all know of them. Boxing gloves are weighted, padded gloves used in the sport of boxing and are designed primarily to protect the hand of the attacker rather than the defender. Boxing and sparring are excellent high-intensity full-body workouts, with the right equipment. Without boxing gloves, we would see a lot more broken hands in the sport, since the hand bones are very small and aren’t made to take on such forceful impacts.

The Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves (Black, 12 oz.) comes in a variety of colors and are weighted either 12 oz, 14 oz or 16 oz, which is standard for most training populations. These gloves come with dense, two-layer foam for better shock absorbency and to promote proper punching technique.

The attacker will strike the pad by kicking or punching it, preventing injury to both individuals.

The free-standing heavy bag has all of the benefits of an ordinary hanging punching bag, but it comes with a convenient and sturdy stand on which to support itself from the ground up. The free-standing heavy bag can be used in just about any gym setting utilizing only a small footprint.

The Everlast PowerCore Freestanding Heavy Bag is adjustable from 52″ to 65″ in height and its sturdy plastic base can be easily filled with sand, water or any similar material of your choice. Although, sand does tend to weigh the bag down a bit more so it better stays in place.

Speed Bag

Speed bags are small, air-filled bags anchored at the top to a rebound platform parallel to the ground. Speed bags help a fighter train to keep their hands up during a bout, improve hand-eye coordination, and to shift their weight left and right when punching.

The Everlast PowerLock Speed Bag comes in two different sizes (medium 9″ x 6″ and large 10″ x 7″) and each is made of leather with reinforced seams for added durability. Fat Gripz

The forearms contain many small muscles that aren’t always worked properly through traditional exercises such as wrist curls. Fat Gripz were created to mimic the increased muscle activation gained by using a thick bar during resistance exercises. Fat Gripz are placed around a traditional olympic sized barbell, thus increasing the diameter of the bar for greater muscle stimulation, generating increased strength and muscle mass in the forearms. Studies show that increased strength in the forearms leads to greater overall strength by preventing a weak link in the kinetic chain.

The original Fat Gripz – The Ultimate Arm Builder have an inside diameter of 1″ and are made of a thick rubber-like compound that convert traditional barbells into thick bars for a tougher and more effective workout.

Massage Bar / Stick

The Extreme Massage Bar by GoFit is made of a durable and sturdy rubber material to really get deep into the muscle tissue to drive out knots.

Men’s Weightlifting Gloves

Weightlifting gloves are a staple for individuals who are new to weightlifting or simply wish to avoid the feel of the coarse metallic bar driving into their palms. Although experienced athletes will argue that weightlifting gloves detract from the exercise to a certain extent, weightlifting gloves will provide extra grip to prevent the bar from slipping during workouts while also protecting the skin from becoming calloused or torn.
