Trainerize Personal Training Software Review
Features And Benefits
Trainerize is a comprehensive platform for remote fitness training. It offers a web application that can be accessed via laptops and computers, and mobile applications for Android and iOS. The mobile application is mainly targeted for clients and gives them many nifty features that can motivate them and increase engagement.
Setting up an account was quite easy. Once I registered with my email address and the name of my business, I just needed to feed in a few more details such as timezone, business type, and the services offered. That was it.
Above is a snapshot of the Trainerize dashboard. It may look a bit intimidating at first, but it has a lot of features that will be useful to you once you become familiar with them. So there is a slight learning curve.
Like most of its competitors, Trainerize gives you a 30-day trial and doesn’t require your credit card details to sign-up. You’ll be able to try out most of its functionality except for “Trainerize Pay” which allows you to sell customized packages, and you won’t be able to have your own branding on the mobile app. Unfortunately, the free trial is heavily limited in that they only allow training a single client.
Trainerize covers the essentials in terms of features. It gives you many predefined programs, workouts, exercises, and more but pays little attention to nutrition plans. Most nutrition components are centered around setting goals while they push for a separate add-on from Evolution Nutrition, available at an additional cost.
Trainerize also allows you to do things like manage payments, your calendar, a good amount of data regarding your clients, and their progress. The in-app messaging feature isn’t as user friendly as I would have liked it to be, but they continue to make improvements based on user feedback.
The huge collection of exercise videos available out-of-the-box is very impressive. I personally prefer to demonstrate each and every exercise to my clients, but I can’t always be available when they need a refresher. So these videos really come in handy.
The mobile app provides a really attractive and engaging interface with all the information they would require to complete their workouts.
Trainerize has a really long list of app and platform integrations. Fitbit is one of them and it helps to track the progress of workouts and keep clients active. In addition, it connects with platforms like MindBody, Evolution Nutrition, MyFitnessPal, and Withings Health Mate. All of this converts to more sales, if properly managed. You can use the Zapier integration to connect Trainerize with your own apps if you’re a little bit more tech savvy.
Another way in which Trainerize shines is with its Social media integrations. They allow you to both keep in touch with your clients and assess them through many tools. Don’t forget, your clients will love the ability to share their workout progress on their social media feeds with just a few clicks.
If all that isn’t enough, these integrations will also help you to keep in touch with your clients even while on the go. This is more true when clients expect me to visit them, or when leading group fitness classes, it’s essential to keep in touch with all my other clients via the app and social media.
With all the features offered by Trainerize, one of the most unique is the “Fitness Clubs” feature. Trainerize calls it an all-in-one member engagement platform for clubs and studios, and that’s exactly what it is. This feature is great for managing multiple locations, multiple trainers and hundreds of clients.
Statistics show that fitness studios and gyms using Fitness Clubs have seen 3X client engagement, 150% increases in service revenue, and 50% more growth year-over-year on average. This is something really innovative that many of Trainerize’s competitors haven’t caught up to.
Trainerize makes revenue generation a piece of cake. It automates most of the routine work you would otherwise spend many hours on. Once you set up your packages and trainers, Trainerize takes care of serving your clients. Once they buy a package, it assigns a trainer and workouts to the client. Invoicing, billing, and all aspects of payments are taken care of with the security and reliability of the Stripe payments platform.
What Customers Say About Trainerize
I usually look at a lot of reviews before starting to use a tool, especially if it’s a paid service. Most of the reviews I have seen have mirrored my experience thus far. I couldn’t find many negative reviews, other than for some complaints about missing features. Hopefully, Trainerize will introduce them soon.
Trainerize has a 4.6/5 rating on Capterra with over 500 reviews. Most of the reviews give it a 5-star rating and have many good things to say about it. Again, almost all the complaints seem to be about missing features like editing client programs via the mobile app, or customizing the number of repetitions or variations of an exercise. The negative aspects of the mobile apps such as bugs and glitches are also evident in their respective app stores. It has 400+ reviews on the Apple App Store with an overall rating of 4.0/5 and over 1,000 reviews on the Android play store with an overall rating of 3.2/5.
To Buy Or Not To Buy
Trainerize isn’t the best in terms of features, with nutrition plans being one area that falls short. There are also some things I wish I could do, like modifying training programs and their configurations. This is especially true of the mobile app, but those aren’t reasons to reject it.
With less than ideal ratings across mobile platforms and some missing features, Trainerize may not be the most attractive in terms of features and usability, however, given its comparatively lower pricing plans, you should definitely give it a try. It takes all the hassle out of manually tracking and client programming.
Pricing plans start at $5/month for Personal Trainers. On top of that, you have close to 10 variations of the Pro and Studio plans that will allow you to optimize your expenses by selecting a number of clients ranging from five to unlimited. The pricing for these variations range from $20 – $350 per month.
Grow Plan | Pro Plan | Studio Plan | |
Pricing | $5/month | $20/month | $250/month |
Number of Clients | 2 | 5 | 500 |
Trainers | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |

Yes, you may find that some of the more advanced features offered by other apps aren’t available here. But really consider whether they will restrict you from getting the full value out of Trainerize to set up and grow your business. Many of the fitness professionals I’ve talked to enjoy the automation offered by the versatile platform.
Understanding that the system continues to evolve and improve over time, then the variable pricing plans and the myriad of exercise resources make Trainerize a great tool irrespective of whether you are just starting as a personal trainer or have an already established gym and looking to take your fitness business to the next level.
