Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that consists primarily of gentle flexibility and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength, muscle balance and mobility. Perhaps the most common piece of equipment used in Pilates is the Pilates ring, which is a durable plastic or metal ring with a 12-14″ diameter and padding on either side. The tension of the Pilates ring provides resistance which can be used between the hands to work out the upper body, or between the thighs for an extra workout of the adductors.
